Summer!

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

It's finally here! School's out and so is the sun! Why not come up for a week and spend some quality time with your children: swim, hike, canoe, fish, roast some marshmallows, learn archery, play a game of volleyball. But most important of all - reconnect with your family!!!

The next week promises to be sunny, hot, and perfect for swimming! If you haven't booked your summer vacation at our cottage resort, DO IT NOW!! We see it every year - those folks who wait til the last minute and then are terribly disappointed when they can't spend their week with us!

We're ready and waiting for you! Happy summer!

G8 in Huntsville 2010

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Well, the G8 is here! Lots of fighter jets in the sky and security officers on the ground! Highway 60 access is now completely restricted to accredited passholders only. If you are planning to come to our cottage resort this weekend, I suggest that you take Highway 35 to Highway 60, then turn left. We are only 1 minute down the road. You will have to pass through a police checkpoint at this intersection. Access from Huntsville is extremely limited and you will need to take a full detour around the town - best to avoid it all together!

On my drive home from Bracebridge the other day, I decided to take Highway 117 to Baysville, then up South Portage Road to avoid the Highway 60 restrictions. It took me about 15 minutes longer, but what a beautiful, country drive that was! I even saw a bear!

Once this weekend has passed, it's business as usual! Give us a call for remaining vacancies for the first couple of weeks of July.

Algonquin Park Visit-June 2010

Sunday, June 13, 2010

After our guests checked out out today - we played hookey for the afternoon! Something we rarely get to do!! We went to Algonquin Provincial Park and hiked on the Bat Lake Trail. It took us just under 3 hours with a great picnic stop halfway through. The weather was perfect - sunny, with a light breeze. Best news was that there were no blackflies and only a couple of mosquitoes.

Along our drive there and back, we saw a fox, deer, a mother moose and her baby (cow and calf), and a bull moose. What a great sight! I'm attaching a couple of photos so you can see how great it is to do a walk there. You'll notice on the cow that she has a large collar around her neck - this means that she is being tracked by the Ministry. Enjoy!

This first picture is of mom and baby - can you spot both??

Bull Moose - if you look closely, you will see the nubs beginning for his head rack:

A couple of nice sights along the Bat Lake Trail:

This little guy is about the width of my index finger. He was hiding out in the high reeds -perfect camo!

Mom and Baby were just on the side of Highway 60 in Algonquin Park - not shy at all!

There is a little waterfalls after it rains on the Bat Lake Trail - just lovely to hike around:

These two were just too cute not to add another photo:
