It's Easter weekend, but it feels like summer at our cottage resort! The forecast today is for sun and a high of 24C!! Wow! Winter was very unusual with one huge snowstorm in December and only little bits here and there afterwards. With this strange heatwave that we are experiencing right now, our snow is almost gone. Our lake still has ice on it; however, if the temperatures reach their forecasted highs, the lake will probably be wide open by next week - a full 2 weeks ahead of what is normal.
I was out doing gardening on March 31st this year - I don't believe in all of the 60+ years that our cottage resort has been in operation, has anyone done gardening in March! Our first spring flowers have been up already for 5 days. We've had Robins on our property for over 1.5 weeks already! I heard a woodpecker doing its thing the other morning and the chickadees are happily chirping away.
The local paper has reported that there have already been bear sightings in the region - again, this has to be a first this early in the year!
The downside of our incredible lack of snow this winter is that the spring melt is already over for the most part. Not enough ground water has turned into a fire warning for all of Muskoka. There is currently a total fire ban due to the extreme risk of forest fire...not good...
Today, we'll be continuing to work at the spring clean-up of our gardens and welcome our Easter Weekend guests.
To everyone out there, Happy Easter! I hope the bunny finds you!
