Summer 2009 - Week 9

Friday, August 28, 2009

2nd last week of summer! Wow! As I write this, there are only 11 days left until school begins - happy dance time! Our guests have been doing LOTS of hiking in Algonquin Park this week.

While out at the campfire on Monday night, there was the most incredible white light that flashed through the sky - we thought that it was a meteor, but it actually may have been space "trash" that burned up as it entered the Earth's atmosphere. It was so bright, it was like turning on a light for about 3 seconds, then clicking it off - it actually created shadows! We'll probably never know what caused the light, but that's OK - it's fun to let our imaginations take over and speculate about possibilities...

For some reason, the blue jays are in full force in our area right now. They love to be in cedar trees - but most of ours don't really exist anymore - thanks to the deer eating them non-stop. Our gardens are starting to take on an almost Autumn feel as the colours start to fade away with the cooler nights. This is my favourite time of year!

We still of last-minute cottages available for the last week of summer! Give us a call!

Summer 2009 - Week 8

Two more weeks of summer to go! I think people have forgotten that we get an extra week at the end of the summer as school is starting quite late this year. We still have vacancies for the last two weeks - give us a call-we've now opened up our remaining cottages for multiple night rentals!

It's been a great week - lots of heat and sun. We also had a huge storm go through with about 25mm of rain that caused rivers down our playfield! Our campfire pit area was completely filled with water - that's pretty impressive since our ground is mostly sand - there was nowhere left for the water to go down as it made its way to the lake. In the end, the only damage was some downed tree branches. Other areas were not so lucky - Gravenhurst was hardest hit in this area. Further away, tornados touched down. We knew something was terribly wrong when the light in the sky was a greenish/yellowish colour. Glad it's over!

My countdown to school is now at 18 days to go!! Yoohoo!

Bookings for September and October are coming in fast and furious at this point - don't wait too long to make your reservation if you plan to visit us for the Fall Colours. A couple of weekends are already sold out!

Summer 2009 - Week 7

Wow - a fantastic weather week. We barely saw our guests this week - they were all swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and doing walking/hiking trails in Algonquin Park.

For something new, we went to the Gravenhurst Drive-In movie on Thursday night! There are so few of these venues around anymore... Our daughters had never been before, so this was quite a treat - the 50¢ popcorn refills were very popular! Check out their website at www.muskokadrivein.com.

We're looking forward to another great weather week coming up!

Summer 2009 - Week 6

Friday, August 7, 2009

Another week done! Lots of kayaking, canoeing, playing games, etc. Archery was popular this week with Izzy hitting the farthest shot! Way to go!

The last few days of this week have seen the most summer-like weather of this summer - beautiful sun, blue skies, and warm.

Algonquin Park held its first Wolf Howl of the summer on Thursday night - around 2000 people attended! The packs were calling very clearly!

Our resort is completely booked again for next week...whew! What a summer! Once again, over 50% of our guests have stayed with us previously. If you've never had the opportunity to spend your vacation with us, come and check us out! We still have vacancies during the last 3 weeks of summer - it's not over yet!!
