It's a gorgeous day - sunny, 22C! The sun is glistening off the still very cold water. All of the ice is gone from the lake, finally!
Only 9 more days until our fundraising Archery Tournament for the Dwight Library on Sunday, May 3rd! Lots of phone calls and interest. Our advertisements are running and lots of folks far and wide have been talking about this event. Almost 50 individuals and businesses have now donated prizes, lunch items, and/or money to the tournament - WOW! Tomorrow, we will be heading onto the outdoor trail to do the final clearing and target placements. The lanes are numbered and the shot lengths marked. The trophies are ready for the Cubs!! So far, the weather forecast is sunny and 16C for tournament day...keep your fingers crossed!
Resort update - bathroom renovations are now underway in both "A" cottage and the main floor of the Duplex cottage. Both have already been drywalled, sanded, and painted. Tub surrounds are waiting to be installed next.
We still have a few snow piles here and there. Some of the tulips are starting to poke through - hooray! Next week, I'll be continuing the garden clean-up. The deer did a real number on the cedar trees at "E" cottage this winter and they (the trees, that is) cannot be saved - the deer situation is a whole different matter! :-) Unfortunately, we'll have to cut the trees down. I'm thinking that lilac bushes might look nice there...plus deer seem to leave them alone.

We saw the loon today for the first time this Spring! The ice has almost left the bay and what is remaining has moved south toward the middle of the lake. Ross and our daughter went fishing off the town dock last night - lots of bites and a 4 footer chasing the bait and jumping - but no supper for us! The big one got away! :-) True story, by the way.
Ross is out cleaning up the property today from all of our winter windstorms. He just saw a deer run across some of the ice, fall through, and manage to pull itself out. I guess the deer thought that the dark blue stuff was food, and not water...not the most brilliant of creatures, but very beautiful!

Big news - the first flower has been spotted in the garden!

It's been awhile! We've just returned from our annual vacation down south - a chance to warm up our bones, stick our toes in the sand, and absolutely relax. The only time in the year when we aren't available to our guests 7 days a week, 18 hours a day. Whew!
We arrived home to almost no snow, sunny skies, robins hopping, and the rivers in Dwight Bay having already met (usually an event that occurs mid-April). Hooray! Two days later - 20cm of snow... Well, we did get in 1/2 a day of raking. It's snowing gently once again today - a perfect day for spring cottage cleaning to continue!
The summer cottage bookings are well underway - we actually have 10 weeks of summer this year, according to the school calendar - 1 bonus week over the usual 9 weeks.
We've heard that the schools in this area will be going back one week earlier in the Fall due to the 2010 G8 Summit. Apparently, the school board does not want children to be travelling in or around the Deerhurst Resort area (where the world's leaders will be having their meetings). There will be a very high security area on the roadways, the air space, and the lakes. The result is that school will be finished prior to the Summit in June. This should be interesting!!!
We've planned a new Summer Activity for families this year - Hockey Night In Dwight! Only, don't expect our version of hockey to be the same one that you see on TV...of course, we will put a twist on things...
We are well underway planning a fundraising Outdoor 3-D Archery Tournament here on Sunday, May 3rd. This is in support of our local Dwight Library and the children's/young adult area that we are expanding. All 20 targets have been sponsored, and over 45 individuals and businesses have donated prizes for that day! A BIG thank you goes out to everyone who has supported this concept since the Friends of the Dwight Library pitched it. A VERY special thank you goes out to our neighbour and friend, Gord Shields, without who's help in pounding the pavement and knocking on doors this event would never have happened!!! We love you Gord! (This will completely embarass him, I'm sure!) If you have your own archery equipment and want to try an outdoor 3 dimensional shoot, give us a call! Adults $20, Cadets (ages 11-15) $15, and Cubs (ages 10 and under) $10 - lunch included!
