Week 5 of Summer

Sunday, July 27, 2008

WOW! It's the middle week of summer already! How did that happen?

We're completely sold out again for this week - only 2 cottages are remaining for the balance of the summer (both for the week of August 23 - 30). Lots of returning guests this week - welcome back! It's always such a pleasure to see all of the children each year - I cannot believe how tall some of them have grown since last year (I always hated it when "old" people would say that about me when I was little - but now I understand why they did!).

The resort playground is the busiest it has been all summer! The water temperature is lovely and the sun is shining. Strange weather this year, though...some days, we've had sun, rain, clouds, wind, not a breath of air, hot, cool... The upside is that the grass is still beautifully green, the nights are cool enough for comfortable sleeping, and the trees are still a brilliant green.

The new single kayaks have been getting wet on a regular basis and lots of marshmallows are still being browned (or burnt!) every second night at the campfire.

Summer Week 4

Thursday, July 24, 2008

We have now almost completed week 4 of summer here at our cottage resort. The Lake of Bays water has been just beautiful for swimming and canoeing/kayaking. We've had the strangest weather this week - rain, sun, cool air switching to hot/humid air. Oh well, the weather is what makes us Canadians a hardy bunch! I loved the weather forecast for today - it was supposed to be rain and thunderstorms - well...we woke up to sun, light fluffy clouds and lots of heat! I wish I had a job where I could make lots of errors and not worry about being fired!! :-)

We had a great Archery night on Tuesday - lots of wee children shooting bows and arrows (I think the youngest was about 3 years old!). It was so popular, that our guests have asked for a second night of Archery - which we'll do tonight!

WEEK 3 of Summer

Saturday, July 12, 2008

It's already the third week of summer holidays here at our cottage resort! Our guests have really enjoyed visiting Algonquin Provincial Park and swimming in Lake of Bays. This week promises to be sunny and warm, with cooler nights - perfect for sleeping.

We're still receiving lots of phone calls for summer bookings - sorry to all of you folks who we are not able to accommodate. Please visit www.north-muskoka.com to view several other local properties who may be able to help you with your vacation! Why am I referring you to someone else's resort? It's simple, really. Even though we cottage resort owners are basically competing for your business, we all have something different to offer - if a resort is not a perfect fit for you or there is no longer any vacancy, we want you to find a local resort that will suit your needs. Plus, we want to keep business in our area, so 9 resort owners are working together to promote North Muskoka as THE destination of choice to enjoy Algonquin Provincial Park and the surrounding lakes!

Our Kid's crafts have been a hit so far! Sorry, can't tell you what we're doing...you'll have to wait and see. This Wednesday, the Friends of the Dwight Library are bringing in a reptile show to the Dwight Community Centre - snakes, alligators, etc. to entertain the children, so our craft day will be changing from Wednesday to Thursday morning. Our local library is truly amazing! There's also a Silent Auction taking place to purchase gift baskets that have been created and donated by local people and businesses - theme baskets such as golf, pet lover, home renovations, knitting, picnic, pasta, wine/cheese, etc. This is an amazing fundraiser that allows us to purchase additional books and magazines for our library patrons to enjoy! If you're in the area, please stop by the Dwight Library and check out the baskets - and make a huge bid!!! :-)

WEEK 2 of Summer

Sunday, July 6, 2008

The 2nd week of Summer holidays is well under way here at our Muskoka Cottage Resort! Lots of children, lots of swimming!

Our campfire nights are popular, as usual. We've had a few brave guests sign up for our canoe/kayak tours - we've seen blue herons, fox, loons, and deer so far. Tomorrow night is Archery - visit this link to learn more about Archery in Ontario www.oaa-archery.on.ca On that note, Logging Chain Lodge and the Friends of the Dwight Library will be hosting a 3-D Outdoor Archery Fundraising Tournament in early May, 2009. Lots of prizes and lunch will be provided. There will be 20 3-D targets and we are still looking for local sponsors to help us out! Give us a call for more information.

Our Ontario cottage rentals are very popular this year - we have only 2 cottages remaining for rental for the remainder of this summer. Thank you to all of the families who trust us with their vacation! We've had great feedback on our new Summer Activity Program and we're sure those families who are still waiting to visit us will really enjoy the new changes we've made.

The weather has been fabulous - sunny and high 20'sC. Today, we are supposed to reach a humidex of 38C - it's gonna be a hot one!
